The region of Guna Yala (San Blas) is a VERY EXTENSIVE strip on the Caribbean Sea, basically it is divided into 3 (three) tourist areas:
1- Zone 1 or the Zone with the greatest Indigenous Culture: farther from Panama City, to the limit with Colombia. This area practically does not receive many tourists from Panama City. Tourism here would be focused on getting to know the Guna culture and its wildlife conservation, mainly the Canal Turtles
2-Zone 2 or the Zone of the Largest Lodgings in the Region: It is only reached by plane. There are no roads. The option that the Gunas use mainly for their merchandise, is to reach the port of Cartí by road from Panama City and then about 3 to 4 hours by boat. The plane arrives at the Achutupu runway. This region is where the best known hotels are: Sappibenega, Yandup, Akwadup, hotel services are basic, although a luxury for this entire region of Guna Yala. In this region they will be able to know the Guna culture, the islands are few and this area “IS NOT OF BEACHES”. A single option to be able to make a beach, only sunbathing, since the waters everywhere are ALL full of algae characteristic of the place; In addition to having many stones. The cost of the plane is worth 150 dollars. This section is to disconnect, in a place without people practically, mainly as a couple, and to know the culture, if this type of anthropological or ethnic tourism is of much interest. .
3-Zone 3 or the Zone of the most beautiful Beaches: closer to the city of Panama, arriving by land to the port of Cartí. There is not going to be so much Guna culture in its most virgin state; but it is definitely the place to do “BEACH”. It is reached by land from Panama City, in about 2 and a half hours of travel, crossing Panama through the central mountains, on an adventure road, passing through a Forest reserve considered as one of the most important in the World. In this section there are many nearby islands, most pristine waters, of various shades of blue and turquoise colors. Most of the lodging services are basic, traditional cabins and camping option, although at present there are a couple of Hotels that offer better comforts.
